José Ginel Rodríguez, MD, FAAP, graduated from the Ponce School of Medicine in 1983. He completed his residency training in pediatrics at the Ramón Ruiz Arnau University Hospital in 1986. During his last year of residency, he was appointed as the chief resident and participated actively in faculty development activities aimed to strengthen his competencies as a junior faculty member. Upon completion of his residency, he was appointed to a faculty position as assistant professor in pediatrics.
His major responsibilities in the Department of Pediatrics included the coordination of resident and student education. He also attended the Lipid Research Center at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he was trained to identify lipid disorders in children. Dr. Rodríguez has presented and been invited to seminars in multiple local and national conferences and workshops on medical education.
Dr. Rodríguez served on several committees at the school, including Curriculum Committee, Admissions Committee, Clinical Skills Committee, and Graduate Medical Education, among others.
In 1994 he was promoted to the position of associate professor. In 1996 he played a pivotal role in the development of the Clinical Skills Development Program and the establishment of the Center for the Development of Clinical Studies and Standardized Patient Program at Universidad Central del Caribe, School of Medicine, (UCC SoM).
After becoming director of the Pediatrics Residency Program at the University Hospital in 1997, he was selected as a faculty Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society member, and two years later was elected as UCC counselor for Alpha Omega Alpha, Gamma Chapter.
Dr. Rodríguez was recruited by the former Dean of Medicine of UCC SoM in 1999 to serve as Associate Dean of Medicine. His major duties included monitoring all aspects of the educational program and chairing the Curriculum Committee.
Dr. Rodríguez rose to the rank of professor in 2002. He was first named Interim Dean of the UCC School of Medicine in July 2003 and Dean in 2004. In December 2006, he was named acting president of the UCC and president in March 2008.
Since 2006, he has been a member and secretary of the Board of Directors of the Regional Academic Medical Center. In 2009 he was appointed member of the Ponce School of Medicine Advisory Committee on the Implementation of the Electronic Health Record in Puerto Rico. He also serves in the Advisory Committee of the Post-Doctoral Master of Clinical Research of the School of Medicine of the University of Puerto Rico. On 2019 he was appointed to participate the PR Hurricane Hub, a unit of the PR Science Trust. His major duty was to develop modules for physicians on how to correctly complete the death certificate.
In March 2020, was recruited by the San Juan Bautista School of Medicine to serve as the Dean of Health Sciences. Also, in 2020 he was invited to be part of the FDI Clinical Investigation faculty, a unit dedicated to developing scientific protocols.
In September 2020 he was elected to be part of the Board of Directors of the National AOA National Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Pete Gutierrez has been in primary care for over 25 years with offices in Miami. He has specialized training in the treatment of opiate dependency and has worked with the Metro Dadecourt system as a provider for mandated treatment. He has also been instrumental in the implementation of Narcan protocols for the Miami PD aspart of the Miami Dade commissioner’s objective to reduce lethality in the county. He is currently the Medical Director of the Miami Rescue Mission Clinic.
