The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) was established in 2006 under the San Juan Bautista School of Medicine (SJBSM) to promote clinical research through clinical trial expansion. Since 2016, SJBSM-CRU has partnered with The Clinical Research Group of Latin America, a specialist in site-level management, to hire and develop a distinguished clinical research staff, cultivate robust relationships with industry sponsors, and build foundational clinical research successes through a diverse collection of clinical trials.

The San Juan Bautista School of Medicine Clinical Research Unit (CRU) is a fully functional clinical research center strategically located between the facilities of SJBSM and Hospital Menonita Caguas, Inc. The collaboration between SJBSM-CRU and Hospital Menonita Caguas is significant for the success of each clinical study. SJBSM-CRU works very closely with other departments in the hospital (imaging, medical records) based on the criteria of the protocol. SJBSM-CRU also works together with the designated Principal Investigator of each study to assure appropriate training and good clinical practices (GCP’s) are carried out with each study based on the criteria and guidelines of the protocol.

The Center aims to provide a research infrastructure to support clinical trials carried out in Puerto Rico. It delivers quality clinical research services to pharmaceutical sponsors as well as individual investigators and entrepreneurs who are interested in clinical drug trials and device development. Our experienced personnel are on hand to perform phlebotomy, EKG, blood and specimen processing, specimen packaging, shipping, and storage, and a number of other necessary clinical trial functions.
