MD Program

The mission of the San Juan Bautista School of Medicine is to educate a culturally and linguistical diverse generation of physicians and other health professionals. The school’s special interest is centered on community health, conducting research on translational community medicine, and or graduating physicians who are responsive to the health needs of underserved and medically vulnerable populations. The Admissions Committee uses a holistic admissions process to ensure the applicant pool and student body is broadly diverse to enable the School to achieve its mission, vision, and goals. The Committee look for applicants who demonstrate not just high academic achievements, but also motivation, empathy, good communication skills in both Spanish and English, cultural competence, problem-solving skills, critical thinking, integrity, resiliency, compassion and altruism. Upon Acceptance

Upon Acceptance a letter will be sent by the Admissions Office to the applicants via e-mail. If the applicant accepts the admission offer, he/she must submit the following documents:

  • CPR certificate
  • Health Certificate
  • Physician’s Report
  • Immunization Certificate (PVCA-3 form) including (Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Meningitis, Influenza and Chicken-pox Vaccines or release of responsibility)
  • One (1) 2 x 2 photo
  • Notirized Birth Certificate and/or valid passport
  • AMCAS criminal background check report (If a criminal record appears in the results, the acceptance will be revoked)
  • Technical Standards Receipt
  • Information Regarding Admissions Document

Applicants accepting an offer of admission must confirm their acceptance and reserve their seat within ten (10) calendar days by submitting a money order or certified check for the amount of $100.00 dollars, payable to San Juan Bautista School of Medicine. This amount will be refundable until May 15th and will be credited towards tuition fees. Admission is granted only for the academic year the applicant has applied for.

Although SJBSM give particular attention to the strong academic metrics, each application is thoroughly reviewed; personal attributes such as motivation, empathy, communication skills in Spanish and English, cultural competence, problem-solving skills, critical thinking, integrity, resiliency, compassion and altruism are in the view of the committee, essential in the final selection. Academic metrics such as MCAT scores and G.P.As are used to assess the applicant’s ability to achieve the academic objectives of the SJBSM curricular program. Applicants from diverse socioeconomic, educational and cultural backgrounds are of particular interest.

Language Pre-requisites

English and Spanish are the official languages of SJBSM. However; since SJBSM is a community-based school, all students will have interaction with spanish-speaking communities. It is expected that enrolled SJBSM students must be able to read, write, speak and understand basic Spanish language. Language proficiency in Spanish will be assessed during the interviews.
