The Chair, faculty, and staff of the Department of Microbiology are pleased to welcome you to San Juan Bautista School of Medicine.
As a key part of the Biomedical Sciences Deanship at SJBSM, the Department of Microbiology oversees our health professional students' Immunology and Medical Microbiology courses. In addition to standard coursework, we integrate innovative teaching methods to enhance learning, offering students hands-on exercises that apply microbiological and immunological concepts to real-world medical challenges.
Our department collaborates closely with other academic departments to support the organ-based curriculum in medical and health professional programs. Our faculty engage in both teaching and research, focusing on infectious microorganisms and the immune system. Our research initiatives aim to advance the understanding of bacterial multidrug resistance, HIV research, and immuno-nutrition, contributing to discovering new antimicrobial therapies and a deeper understanding of microbial pathogenesis.
We are confident that our students have the opportunity to make significant scientific and professional contributions during their time at SJBSM and beyond, whether in hospitals, academia, health administration, or other clinical and healthcare settings.
